Just a short ramble regarding "breathing methods/exercises". I weighed about the same wt. when I graduated from high school as I do now, (240 lbs on a large 6'3" frame). While I'm certain I snored occasionally back then, I didn't have excessive daytime sleepiness. One of the big differences was that I played flute in band & orchestra and practiced regularly - probably a minimum of 1 hr a day on top of the daily band or orchestr practice. With work, etc., my playing of woodwinds has dropped dramatically over the years, could this lack of throat muscle exercise have contributed to my apnea? Of course the other big difference was I was 18, not 48.

I also probably staved off apnea a number of years by graduating from college weighing 195 lbs., even though my flute playing had dramatically decreased even then. I don't know if starting to play flute or other woodwinds again would help the apnea levels, by increasing the muscle tone in the throat - I'd like to believe that it could have at least an incremental positive effect. If anybody has had any success in decreasing apnea that way, I'd like to hear it. At the moment, I'm trying to get the weight more under control and see if that along with the surgery I've had will reduce me to normal levels. Kevin
