Hi Michron,

Welcome to the club!

I'm not sure where you got your chin strap, but if it is like most others, it wraps around your head from the peak to under the chin, attaches with velcro and pulls your lower jaw upwards agains your upper jaw. Most of them are very effective at keeping your teeth clenched tightly shut. The pain and discomfort can be a bit, well, uncomfortable, however. But the real problem for many is that they do not work.

My recommendation is to search practically any recent forum for "RenoTom" and e-mail him for what I believe is the only real practical solution to mouth breathing: "The RenoTom Chin Strap". He will send you the instructions.

It works NOT by using vise-grip pressure to keep your teeth tightly clamped shut, but instead applies SOFTER pressure upwards under your lower jaw, while another "cross-strap" pulls up ever so slightly on your lower lip. Your lower lip will stay shut and you will not mouth breath, nor get a jaw cramp. It is quite remarkable, really.

Materials cost around $5, plenty of colors to use if you are so inclined to have a "designer chin-strap"...the one drawback is you need to find someone who can sew. My wife made mine in about 15 minutes once I had measured and "pinned" it together for her.

Good luck, and keep on posting...
