I've had extreme low back pain for quite awhile. I had my mattress redone at the factory where they put much more reinforcing material on top and bottom to make it stiffer, yet still soft on top. This helped somewhat. It was recommended by the owner of the company. I've used the pillow between the knees trick and it often helps when on my side. On my back the pillow or two under the knees helps too. However, when I get up in the morning my low back hurts so badly I can barely bend over. It also hurts during the day when I have to stand for a long period of time.

I think my problem is a combination of a lack of regular exercise and stretching, and the extra effort it takes to expel the air from my lungs while on the machine, causing the muscles in my lower back area to tense up all night. The yoga suggested earlier sounds like a great idea! I'm going to try it both in the morning and at night to see if it helps. Ibuprofin is also a possible help in the short term until the back recovers.
