In Reply to: Anyone try a dental appliance? posted by Kat on August 17, 2001 at 20:29:45:

Mom is about to get a dental appliance, The Silencer, to be used in conjunction with her xPAP.
She has severe apnea which is only controlled 2/3rds of the time with her AutoAdjust LT. The other 1/3rd of the time she has mild or moderate apnea.
She has dementia which I feel is due to her apnea. The distribution of those 'good' and 'bad' nights is fairly random, but when she gets 5 or 6 'good' nights in a row her dementia lessens. One bad night can wipe out all her progress. The trick will be to eliminate those 1/3rd of the nights with apnea, and see how she is after 2 weeks of 'good' sleep.
She been measured for the appliance and will get it in early September. By Sept. 20th, I hope to be able to report good news. Can you wait until then?
