I believe that some researchwas being done in Australia regarding the dental appliance. Apparently the findings were that it does work for 1 in 4 patients but after using the appliance for a few years the research found that many were experiencing signs of arthritis in the jaw area. So I suppose you should give this some thought. But remember it doesn't alwaays happen to everyone. When the appliance is used in the mouth it brings the bottom jaw forward and this is not a natural way to sleep I feel. I tried it and it wasn't suitable for me. But then again going to bed with a mask on your face attached to a machine is not exactly natural either.
