I've had a Remstar for over 2 years (started out with a Tranquility, but it died after less than a year). I have a Fisher-Paykel heated humidifier (I don't take the platform with me when I travel). They've been all over the world (literally). I usually travel with a roller bag and a tote (and I forgo the briefcase). I put the hoses in the roller bag (running them around the outer parameter of the "suiter" side of my bag works). I can fit my laptop, the Remstar and the humidifier (and mask) in my tote; however, it gets pretty heavy (more because of the laptop), and I did quickly upgrade to a tote that has wheels for those times when I've had to check the roller bag). My secretary lets the hotels know in advance that I need distilled water. Also, I've discovered that many hotels have the lamps on their bedside tables permanently afixed. I iceskate and I've discovered that an extra set of skate laces (because they are so long) are perfect to take along to "tie" my humidifier to a lamp (bedpost, or whatever is available, etc.) so it won't tip over. Another trick - if I can't find any other way to stabilize the humidifier, I've been known to pull a drawer out of the nightstand, set the drawer on top of the nightstand and then put my cpap and the humidifier inside the drawer.
