Believe it or not, I have made the decision to "hold my nose" and stick with the DME as well. I bought my first autopap (AutoAdjust LT) on the internet and got it quickly, etc. etc. However, I had to pay a $500 deductable AND my insurance (BCBS) only paid $500 towards it claiming that they ONLY pay $500 towards CPAPs of any type - ha!! Well, here I am 2 years later and after sleep study #3, Doc thinks I should get an AutoSet T (they actually tested me on it in study #3.) So, they submitted ALL the right paperwork and my "favorite" (a.k.a. lesser of two evil) DMEs gave the "ok" and placed the "special order." When I went to pick it up today, it was actually a Virtuoso. I went ballistic and showed them where the prescription specified an Autoset T. First the two "respiratory technicians" (it took two of them to deal with me) tried to convince me that they couldn't get Sullivan equipment. Then I explained that I had purchased three Mirage Masks AND hubby has a Sullivan VI from THEM, they changed their tune. Then the guy tried to convince me that this machine would work fine since autopaps are "all the same" and again, I had to explain that I already had an autopap and that my doctor specifically stated a Sullivan. Bottom line - after cajoling and toeing the line, they finally gave in and called their Sullivan rep. I will be getting my new AutoSet T WITH software on Friday - case closed, lol. Even after ALL this mularky, I am still going to stick with the DMEs - I ashamed of it, but honestly, I would rather get an AutoSet T for $360 out of pocket (with software) and put up with the b.s. than pay $900 off the internet because the insurance will only pay a certain amount on an out of network claim. I hate the fact that I have to play this game, but thanks to this site, I at least know how to play it (and win.)
