New to CPAP

Posted by Opher on January 17, 1999 at 23:34:59:

Hello All -

Well, after years of being kicked for snoring at night (and at meetings, movies, family dinners, etc.) I got tested. I didn't set any records, but fell into the "moderate" (30 apnic episodes per hour) range and the insurance folk agreed to pay for a CPAP device (after I met the deductible).

Anyway, I have the DeVilbiss Horizon unit, with the nasal pillows. I find it quiet, light weight and about as convenient as something like this can be. I'll be travelling with it and have already started to read the several long threads about CPAP and travel. Thanks for all the tips and suggestions.

I'll add two: (1) Carry an extension cord (I always have one for my laptop) and (2) carry and extra pair of the nasal pillows if you use them.

Finally, my issue: The first two nights on the CPAP were wonderful (really!). While I didn't sleep as long as I usually do (fighting with the hose, the head-gear) I was MUCH less tired in the morning than before. However, ever since the first two nights, it's been down hill each night. Less comfort, less sleep, more tired in the morning. Anyone else notice this? Any ideas? I checked the filter on the unit and washed it out. I tried a different pillow, a variety of pillows, etc. Nothing helps.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm glad to find a supportive place to share experiences, information, gripes , and insights.
