Plastic Smell

Posted by Drew on January 18, 1999 at 09:04:40:

I joined the ranks of the "moderate OSA" recently. I have been trying to get used to the CPAP with the usual problems, mouth breathing, tearing off the mask. I am more tired than ever.

One of my biggest complaints and problems in adjusting to the CPAP is the smell. All the equipment is plastic and new. When I put the mask on, the plastic gases make me nauseous. I have cleaned everything and tried running the machine in the day.

Does anyone know of a way to eliminate these odors?

Also, I have a Respironics Solo with a mirage mask. I did not initially purchase a heated humidifier but think I need one. We keep our house pretty cool in the winter. Any recommendations on the best one to purchase?

These forums are great! It is nice to have a place to go for some advice.
