I shared the same concerns with my doc about insurance as you, and asked him since mine is a mild case (26 wake-ups) do I really need a cpap. He got real firm and said sleep apnea is not to be taken lightly (even a mild case). Left untreated, it could lead into serious problems, including death.

That said; my insurance company didn't flinch they paid for everything no questions asked. I believe because it saves them money in the long run by avoiding the "serious problems." If your insurance company gives you a hard time, yell and scream because this is your quality of life and your life itself your talking about.
