Drew:

The plastic smell will go away after a few days of use. Every time I get a new hose (or mask), I have to live with that lovely new car smell, PVC. Use some vinegar/water mix to swish and it will help, but not get rid of it all.

As for humidifiers, I use a heated Fisher & Paykell (affectionately known around this form as Fisher Price) with a chamber that has a removeable bottom. This works well with your equipment, and keeps my sinuses from screaming. The non-heated humidifiers do not provide nearly as much soothing relief to the dry nose feeling, but the Virtuoso will not work correctly with anything but the non-heated passover humidifier that Respironics distributes.
