Posted by Peter on January 19, 1999 at 08:31:08:Hello All. Thanks for your continued support and observations. The group really made a difference in the quality of my operation and recovery.
It has been 7 days since my UPPP, and I'd like to update the group on my new thoughts about the operation and recovery.
I guess my main point is I underestimated the pain involved. I posted 3 days after the surgery, at which time the pain was discomforting, but I felt certainly not as bad as others had described it. However, the pain level has gotten worse. I have about 20 stitches were my uvula used to be, and two white spots where my tonsils once were. If I follow the advice I have garnished here I expect the pain to subside in 7 days. But without getting too graphic, one member described it aptly as 'getting shot in the back of the throat.' Yesterday while gargling with Lidocaine, a pain numbing liquid, a wound opened and I was spitting blood for 1 hour.
Was it worth it? You bet! If this even partially cures my apnea I'd be grateful. This pain is temporary. The apnea has been with me for 46 years.
