nasal pillow chafing

Posted by Tom on August 28, 2001 at 14:40:35:

The biggest problem for me with my Breeze has been the pillows. They work much better than my old nasal mask did (it leaked horribly and I was still quite apneaic with it on), but they chafe my nose horribly.

The two problems are chafing on the lip of the nostril (just on the inside) and chafing on the septum (? middle part). This chafing frequently causes small, very painful sores to develop. I sometimes use the medium (clear) pillows instead of the large (green) pillows because even though the large pillows seal much better, the medium pillows chafe much less.

I want to use the large pillows. I've heard several recommendations here (KY, even neosporin). I've tried skin lotion (bad idea -- it made the chafing go away but gave me pimples!) and even some moleskin (I put a tiny, tiny piece on the septum of my nose last night and it seemed to help but it's a pain in the butt to do every night...).

I'd like to hear what people here use, what works best, and any general ideas to try.

Thanks!
