I put it under the humidifier so the heat would go up into it. Then place a towel over the humidifier to help hold in the heat. My passover humidifier held almost 2 cups of water. I would heat the water for about 1 minute in a microwave to start it off with heated water. This way I wouldn't have to wait for the heating pad to heat the water.

If you fill the humidifier with room temp water and immediately turn on the humidifier, the water never gets a chance to heat up cause the air flow will cool it off too much.
