That government ineptitude displayed at the airports is the result of the citizens of this country insisting that our rights and freedoms not be violated by "unnecessary and intrusive" regulations and searches. An armed guard on a plane is useless. He can't use his gun since he could possibly rupture the hull of the plane causing violent decompression and the plane to crash (just what the terrorists want).
I can certainly agree with your feelings (I really do). But right now during this troubling time, I'm thankful for many things about how Bush is handling the situation, and its not because he's from Texas.
I'm thankful that we have a President:
1. whose first action is to genuinely turn to God for reassurance and guidance.
2. who genuinely cares about the victims, their families, and the rescuers involved
3. who has the presence of mind to react with control and determination, measuring his comments and actions. Not giving away his intentions to the enemies of our country (no doubt they realize we are coming, I don't want them to know how, when, and from where)
4. who, working with his cabinet, will find the perpetrators of this attack and will act appropriately with the full force and strength required to bring them to justice (read: MAKE THEM PAY) and send the proper message (read: DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT) to anyone who considers trying this again.5. who has the integrity to stand up to the terrorists of this world instead of kissing up to them (8 years of this is 9 years too long)
6. who, I believe, through his actions and how he deals with this situation, will make us proud
7. and so much more
As Americans we will "feel good" again because we (our president and country) did what was right and in the right way. We will stand for freedom and defend ourselves against any attackers (but we are going to get the right ones). We won't be feeling good because we have a president who is a great orator. Someone who says things to just make us "feel good" but doesn't have the integrity and determination to stand up for America against our enemies. We've had too much of that (our current situation is the result).
Bush isn't a great orator, but I believe he will do what is right. We can't (and shouldn't) go attack every punk "would be" terrorist in the world. So, we must identify the true perpetrators and the countries that help them and go after them. Our actions should be above board and appropriate, but in the end our appropriate response should complete and devastating. That will send the proper message to any future "would be" terrorists (unfortunately, there will always be some that are stupid enough to try again).
