After 4 years I'm off CPAP

Posted by latitude 13 on September 25, 2001 at 22:24:49:

Saw my sleep doctor yesterday for the results of my sleep study. I was experiencing bloating and increased sleepiness, insomnia. I have been on CPAP going on 4 years October 24. CPAP saved my life and gave me back my metabolism. So after losing 67 lbs. by riding a bike for 1 hr. 3 times a week and walking 1hr. 2 times a week, my doctor said that I did not have Apnea episodes at any time during the night. He said that I tolerated 5 water pressure without an Apnea episode.

So what is my problem? I can't get off of it. So we have decided to lower the preasure to 8 for 1 month and then set it to 5 till I can get off it. After 100% compliance I have become dependent on it. I intend on getting one of theose "white noise" machines. Anyone have thoughts on this or similar experiences? I thought that Apnea was something that was with me forever. Dr. plans on doing a baseline study next year to determine if it has returned or if I need to get on it at lower pressure. I pray it won't.
