Regarding your sore back, you might want to investigate an air mattress such as a Select Comfort or Nautilus. This is because you can vary the firmness to find what works best for you. My wife keeps her side rock hard (I've accused her of sleeping on a pool table) while my side is at 50%. I've many times slept all night without moving and without any soreness.
The mattresses are not cheap, but one mattress gives you the opportunity to really experiment on what works best. Good luck!!!
