Air leakage from mouth while sleeping

Posted by Spence on October 06, 2001 at 03:50:45:

I have been on CPAP for 9 weeks now on a setting of 14, using the Breeze Nasal Pillows. I have noticed that I will wake up during the night with air seeping out of my mouth. I tried a chin strap(thanks Reno Tom!)....which kept my mouth closed but I still would leak air through my closed teeth and lips. I tried taping my mouth shut with microspore tape, and then I would wake with a mouth "blowout", ballooned full of air. This only happens in the deepest stages of sleep, usually while I'm dreaming. (It's so great to dream again!) It feels as though in my most relaxed state that a bit of air is escaping past my tongue and escaping through my mouth.
Could my pressure be set alittle too high? I have lost 20 lbs since I started, but is that enough to effect pressure settings?
Any advice is welcomed.
Thanks to all of you out there for making this process so much easier to cope with!
