Hi Stephen. I started on CPAP 9 weeks ago with a conventional mask. But the straps and leaking made me crazy. So I changed over to the nasal pillows and it has been smooth sailing for me ever since! It takes a little amount of time for your nares to adjust to having something touching/rubbing against them, but I used neosporin for a couple of nights and that took care of my break-in period.
The choice between masks and pillows is a very personal one and I agree you should try both before you make a decision.
There is so much information and advice in this forum that can help you. Pop "nasal pillows" into the search engine and read away!
Good luck and sleep well.
