I just finished my 15th day on CPAP so am still experimenting with equipment(am at a pressure of 9 on Remstar Plus with heated humidifier). My insurance provided me with Breeze mask and pillows (they started me with medium and then switched to a large size which feel a lot better). Then I bought an inexpensive ($30)Respironics Contour Deluxe nose mask on Ebay to try out at my own expense -- and to have something for back up. After the short time I have been on CPAP, I find that pillows are surprisingly more comfortable than they appear to be in pictures. However, I still find them hard to sleep with every night and tend to get tender spot on my nose each time I use them. Now I have discovered that two nights using the Breeze and then two nights on Contour Deluxe is best combination. I am currently using the medium size CD but had to crudely cut some of the silicon that seemed to block nares and make breathing constricted -- now is is much better but not sure it is a good practice to do this. Now I have ordered CD in small size (got this one for $20 on Ebay) which, according to posts on earlier sleepnet forum, is supposed to fit most people better than M or L. Sooo - what I am saying is you might want to let insurance buy the breeze and pillows which seem to be more expensive than nose masks. Then if you have to try something else and it has to be at your own expense, you can buy a more inexpensive nasal mask like CD. Just my two cents from short experience. By the way, just yesterday I convinced my ENT to write a prescription for Mirage Full Face mask because of chronic mouth breathing, so will have a third alternative mask to try by early next week (insurance agreed to pay for it too :-). I guess you gotta do what ya gotta do when you become a hosehead.
