I've been seeing a neurologist who specialized in sleeping disorders. I posed the same question. She told me: it is okay to take a nap if you feel like you really need one (or if you know you are going to be up very late that night, etc.); it should not be within 5 hours of bedtime; it shouldn't exceed 1 hour in length; and always use the CPAP machine.

I'm sure this varies from person-to-person (so you should check it out with your doctor).
