I had that problem and solved it by seeing my dentist. I had him make me a one piece mouth guard that closed off the front of my mouth. It can be released easy with a conscious movement of mouth and tongue. This device also guards against teeth grinding problems although I don't have that problem. It takes about a week to get used to it but it works well.
