I have your same setup at 15, including the Reno Tom chin strap. The chin strap helped a lot, but I took it one step futher. Try buying a box of 3x4 stick resistant (not teflon coated) gauze pads. Put the pad on the "lip" strap, and put the combination directly over your mouth. This keeps the chin strap sanitary - it worked for me, and I flip the pad over the second night. Two uses out of each pad. I have had GERD, and would never tape my mouth shut. I would estimate the chin strap alone was 60% effective, and the gauze pad is 85% effective. I still have some mouth leakage, but not enough to damage my treatment.

I have a mouth full of air from time to time and basically ingore it. Let it go, or push it back down -but do not swallow it.
