Posted by Dawn Rising on October 19, 2001 at 01:16:41:My DME gave me a second mask (no charge) after I had been on CPAP for a couple weeks. I was having some trouble with my first mask (because it was a medium when I needed a small). The second mask was a different model. Sitting up with it it fit great but leaks like a seive laying down. I talked to my DME and he says he says he will give me yet another mask (no charge). Since I am a side sleeper, and I've read here that the Breeze is good for reducing leaks for side sleepers, I asked him if he could fit me with the Breeze. He said no, that insurance would not allow it, but I could buy it on my own. He said the Breeze costs $260. BUT, he has told me that the other masks are $120. each. At 3 masks so far that would be a value of $360. Wouldn't it be cheaper to give one more expensive mask that would likely work better, than to keep giving more cheaper masks? Where's the sense? He says insurance will not pay for any of the more expensive masks; be it the nasal pillows, full face or whatever.
