Tried The Breeze at Sleep Lab

Posted by Dawn Rising on October 19, 2001 at 01:47:46:

Had my sleep study Wednesday night. They let me try the the Breeze (with large pillows). I had brought the wide headband I use as a chinstrap/mouth-cover at home (have not gotton Tom Reno's band made yet), but with all the electrodes and tape on my lower face and chin, my strap would not cover my mouth, and so I had a lot of mouth breathing the 2nd 2 hours of my sleep study. I asked them for the chin strap they had offered before we got started, but they said they wouldn't give it when I only had a couple hours left to go. They did say they had gotton pretty good data the first 2 hours (hadn't mouth breathed even though was sedated with Ambian) but really wished they could get more, so I had to make a concious effort to try to keep my lips shut, which meant I didn't go into deeper sleep.

I loved the pillows but they said I shouldn't get them because I had too much leakage. I only know I leaked a couple times around the pillows because I was pulling too hard on the tube trying to pull all those wires and that box out from under me. I do know I constantly woke up after the first 2 hours; to get a sip of water because my mouth was dryer than a desert (from mouth breathing, and had no humidifier).

I looked on CPAPman and the Breezw costs about $160. with shipping. Should I listen to the sleep lab and not risk wasting my money, or will I likely have good success with them at home where I could use a conjo strap, a good chin and mouth strap, and of course my heated humidifier?
