By the way, there's one more question that must be asked: are you absolutely certain that you are not mouth breathing from time to time?

Episodic mouth breathing could produce the bouts of dry nose /throat / sinus pain that you suffer. You might need to tape your mouth or use a chin strap for a few consequtive nights, if your partner sleeps too heavily to be able to observe you as you sleep.

Mouth closed = no pain would prove the point, and the condensation in the shell might be completely irrelevant, by being symptom instead of cause!
