CPAP therapy does prevent oxygen desaturation that is part of the apnea condition. And that does make a big difference for many as Doug said, but another more debilitating aspect for many is the sleep depravation/sleep debt part of things.
Read up on it using the search function, or by reading past posts.
It is important to understand this as you must pay off your sleep debt in order to fully recover.
