I find the fact that they only went with the dental applicance a bit strange.
Do you have the statistics from your friend's sleep study? What you need to know is how many apnea and hypopnea events he or she had per hour; what percentage was their oxygen at; how fragmented was their sleep?
If their apnea is very mild, it could be just a side effect of the allergies. Or it could be that they always had mild apnea without knowing it and the allergies put it into the moderate range.
Anyway, if the numbers are significant, then CPAP is a MUST. I understand the reluctance--believe me, NONE of us wanted to believe we had this condition and none of us was thrilled to learn we had to sleep in a get up that made Darth Vader look attractive. BUT MANY OF US have been so happy to regain life, energy and the pursuit of normal activities again that it means we are very grateful to CPAP and the doctors who invented it.
SO, pending numbers that look convincing, you can help your friend make a better decision.
