If I may offer an amateurish take on the matter. Tubes for the ears deal with closed eustachian tubes. The middle ear requires regular air supply because among other things it absorbs air and without air supply a vacuum is eventually created. This causes a build up of fluids and possible infection and the ear drum is sucked in. This affects hearing and causes pain and ear noise. The tube aerates the middle ear from the outside, thus allievating the problem.
The problem CPAP causes is different. The air pressure acts on the eustachain tubes from inside, the pressure causing discomfort amd pain and also "popping". Hope this helps.
