Hang in there. I had a similar experience. Had to take the mask off during the study. I came back for a secont night and was motivated by a young child there for sleep sttudy. Hey, if he can do I can. At the sleep lab, the mask was very tight and with no exhale port! I felt like I was being smothered. The mask I use has the exhale port and is much more tolerable although no pleasure to wear. But, the benefits are worth the hassle.
