Sleep Study / Nasal Pillows / Titration....

Posted by SleepyTexan25 on December 06, 2001 at 04:08:02:

Well, I went back to the sleep lab on Sunday night to have another study...this time while trying out the CPAP and different masks. I had a problem at first....mainly because I can't stand to have anything on my face (can't even wear sunglasses/glasses without getting an awful headache...seems to be something about the slightest pressure on my nose/sinuses that does it). Anyway, I tried a couple of different full masks first, and didn't like them...so then they brought in the nasal pillows, and we tried a few different sizes until we found one that seemed to fit without leaking (I think I ended up with the medium size, and it had a part on the headgear where you could tilt/adjust the angle). With the nasal pillows I slept all night and don't remember waking up at all. The technician said I did very well with them. When I woke up, I didn't have the usual headache, dry mouth, and dry eyes like I usually do. I also felt more awake when I first woke up than I usually do. Unfortunately the feeling didn't last too long, within a couple of hours I was struggling to stay awake again (of course I guess it would take a lot more than one night to do much good). I'm supposed to go back this afternoon to meet with the doctor and go over the results of the study, and see what his recommendations are. He said that he would probably have me do a one-month trial with the CPAP and then come back in for a follow up and go from there. I'll see if he sticks to that today.
