In addition to what PamC said about the medical seriousness of the condition, as shown by your RDI, desat level, and sleepiness - here's a note of encouragement. One night under sleep-study conditions is not enough to tell if you can make CPAP work. Also, in your post you said you could not keep your mouth open; but if you _do_ keep your mouth open while using CPAP (unless with a full-face mask), it doesn't work. The pressure is not provided, because the air is blasting in your nose and out your mouth. Some mouth-breathers find the full-face mask is the solution. Others (like me) have made the nasal mask work, by tackling it patiently and methodically with measures such as: 1) a chinstrap, 2) a decongestant like Claritin, if your doctor determines that congestion is part of what makes nose-breathing difficult, 3) anti-inflammatory nasal sprays like Nasonex, when needed, 4) heated humidification. It's worth a sustained effort to make CPAP work.
