Pioneer,
I have the same combo as Nancy in Colorado, a Resmed Elite 6, Humidaire humidifier and an Ultra Mirage Nasal mask.
I had tried several masks and machines but found this combination the best for the following reasons.
Quieter than any of the others I tried.
Seems more solidly built than some of the others.
Definately easier to use than some of the others,
due to user friendly dial on the Humidaire and subtly lighted buttons on the CPAP for easier use during the night.
Elite 6 has ramp features, pressure indicator, and my favourite a Smart Start feature which when activated will stop the air flow when you remove the mask and start automatically when you put the mask back on and breath into it again. Lots of other options on it as well.
I checked all the manufacturers websites for info on various models and found Resmed web site was very informative and even instructions of mask fittings with animated pictures which helped me a lot.
I do think the mask is the final and most important piece of the puzzle and certainly the most personal as it is the interface for the "whole system" as it were, with "the human" part of the program!!!
It is also the most discussed piece of equipment I believe, due to our personal preferences.
I haven't tried the "adam circuit" pillows but have tried several masks and none are perfect.
THe Ultra Mirage Nasal is the best by far for me for comfort and fit, (they have 3 sizes of cushions to fit most faces)but even at that I still struggle with it from time to time but as I say, still the best of those I have tried and excellent customer service and good website support and an OSA newsletter open to anyone.
Many suppliers will allow you to trial different models if you insist and especially if you have done your homework and ask for specific models.
Make sure your doctor prescribes a heated humidifier right up front because it is almost always leads to better compliance.
All the best in your quest for rest,
JJ
