Amen RenoTom!!!
Lawrence, I'm sorry you have had this problem. I too had some sinus problems from breathing air from my cpap, but getting the right equipment solved that. I agree with RenoTom about making such a blanket statement. I also feel that either you have misunderstood your doctor OR he/she has given you some bad information and may not really know how to treat someone with OSA.
Read how my experience differs from yours.I have had chronically congested sinuses due to allergies. I could barely breathe through them and I don't tollerate most sinus medications well. I was using a Full Face mask with a passover humidifier and had major sinus headaches and dryness problems caused by cpap, especially during the cooler months. I changed to a heated humidifier and a nasal mask and then to nasal pillows. My sinuses are soooooooooo much better. The heated humidification soothes my nasal passages and reduces the swelling and congestion and I can breathe through them for the first time that I can remember. I look forward to using cpap with my heated humidifier each night cause I know how much better my sinuses will feel during the night and tomorrow, and I'm at a moderately high pressure (14 cm). Since getting on cpap, and particularly with a heated humidifier, my sinuses have been healthier and I have had fewer problems with infections.
Of course I had to change doctors before I found one who prescribed the right combination of equipment and settings to make it work right for me. My first doctor sure didn't do it.
