Luckily, I have had and used a heated humidifier from the beginning. I have had two colds in that time. With the first, I expected to have problems using CPAP. However, if I cleared my air passages well, the heated humidity kept my passages open all night. With the second cold, I had a tougher time. Since then, on this forum, there has been a discussion about putting already heated water into your humidifier. If I have trouble with my next cold I will try that. It may be that my passages clogged up before the humidity could get to them.
I have heard many stories on this forum of people who had horrendous sinus problems while using a passover or no humidifier who were helped immensely after using a heated one. I have no experience with this, but many others here do. If you do a search on heated humidifer, I am sure you will get a multitude of hits.
Good luck with your treatment.
