I have always been a mouth-breather before CPAP and requested a chin strap at titration to be sure it worked effectively. Lo and behold the chin strap fell off that night and I had no mouth breathing issues then or since!

It seems my tongue seals my mouth at the back of the throat so even if my mouth hangs open and I drool on the pillow I still am not using my mouth for air. Releasing that seal consciously feels very strange and I'm sure I would immediately wake up.

I wonder if this will change after I have my tonsils removed? I have UARS with an RDI of 13 so the hope is I won't need CPAP at all after the tonsillectomy.
