Don't take no for an answer! Some of the insurance companies use "cut-off" levels for the AHI (apnea/hypopnea index), before they cover CPAP, but with levels that are based on outdated Medicare definitions of what constitutes Apnea. But if you can get a board-certified sleep doctor to contact the insurance company's doctors and say: "Based on my professional evaluation, this patient would very likely benefit from CPAP therapy (saving you, the insurance company, tons of $$$ on blood pressure medication, treatments for heart problems, and possibly trauma care and orthopedic surgery if he/she drives off the road from fatigue), so it would be wise to authorize a two-month trial on CPAP" - you might get it! And then, if the results are good in the doctor's evaluation, you have a leg to stand on to fight further. I did this when a sleep study claimed that I had "zero" AHI. It worked. The one-month trial was like a miracle. Also, a follow-up study showed I had AHI of 26, because the first test was incompetent.

Good luck!
