Hi wolfgang,
Air passages can also be blocked by a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates. I am a musician as well and I had both of these procedures done with no change to my voice. However, if he suggests something like working on your throat (unless it is your tonsils) make him refer you to a sleep doc. An ENT's bread and butter is surgery!
Don't allow yourself to be intimidated! If need be, have someone go with you to your appointment and write down questions to ask the doc. You could even take a tape recorder and tape the visit! Right now, get all the support you can. Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes!
