Bill,
First I would get a heated humidifier. It is a must for me. The non-heated units only offer minimal humidification. Be sure your humidifier is compatable with you auto-pap. Some machines require specific humidifiers to pass along the snoring signals to the auto-pap.
I have a Mallinckrodt Goodknight 418-A auto-pap. It has worked well for me. While it is not as advanced as the 418-P it does store data on pressures and apneas/hypopneas and snoring, although in 15 minutes averages. My DME supplies this machine at the same price as the 418-G plain CPAP machine. This allowed me to get the auto-pap but the insurance company covered it because it was billed at the plain CPAP rate. The other nice thing is that the 418-A can be set to function as a plain CPAP if that is what is wanted.
