I agree Hypopnoeas are a little difficult to undersatnd at first. Basically a hyp. is a reduction by more than 50% of your normal airflow for more than 10 seconds. This reduces the amount effective air into your lungs and then to your body and brain. Obstructive sleep apnoea sydrome (OSAS) is also known as obstructive sleep apnoea and hypopnoea syndrome (OSAHS). Hypops are usually more common than full apnoeas and are thus also closely watched in sleep studies.
