Should I or shouldn't I??? UPP & Somnoplasty

Posted by N2Deep on January 31, 2002 at 18:18:33:

I have been using CPAP for about 6 months at a pressure of 10 - recently upped the pressure to 11 because I was still snoring in the mask. Went to the ENT today and told him that not only was I still snoring, but that I am getting pain in my lower lungs (have Costo Chondritis) plus my gag reflex has become so strong it's hard to brush my teeth without choking badly.
The doctor said CPAP is often not very effective for people with Costo Chondritis (inflamation of the cartilidge between the ribs) because upping the pressure only makes it expand your lungs more... hence, more pain. He wants to schedule me for a Somnoplasty and a UPP, including tonsilectomy.

Should I do it? Also, my parents (they're in their mid-70's) are very dubious about this - they look at this the same way they look at Chiropractors, with lots of skepticism. If I decide to do the surgery route, any ideas on how to sway them?

Thanks much!
