Posted by tominjax on February 01, 2002 at 04:56:33:There seems to be a pattern of complaints of practically all providers and sleep professinals including arrogance and all that goes with very busy HMO approaches to our health.
I am very ignorant of what is involved in the scoring of a sleep study. A review of the tech forum seems to indicate a very wide range of techniques and time spent in scoring the study.
If I understand it, considerable time is required to get it right and a high skill level is required.
How much confidence can we have in the results reported if the techs are under as much pressure to produce as the rest of those who seem to not inspire confidence or at least a great degree of concern.
Is it possible that innacurate and incomplete reports are done by the seat of the techs pants and empirical rather than a thorough study of the data? When some techs get more experience, could they be making guesses and taking shortcuts?
How much of the analysis is done by computer and how much by trained experts?
Is this a concern in the industry or am I just building a mountain from a molehill?
One thing for certain is that I and a very high percentage of sufferers are at the mercy of those scoring the studies.
Could this be a cause of separate studies we hear about here having such different results.
thanx tom
