Posted by addy on February 08, 2002 at 15:57:25:I had read a couple postings in this forum from a person who had difficulty sleeping for her sleep study and was upset that she felt the tech was not sympathetic toward her.
Those who replied seemed to feel the tech was right and the patient was acting in a non-cooperative manner.
A sleep lab is a very awkward place to sleep considering the smll and the wires and it being a non-familiar setting.
The way I was trained, when I worked with patients in a different capacity, was that the patient comes first.
I can understand that a tech wants good readings for the scoring and that time is limited but a patient needs to feel safe and comfortable. I, for one, would be most agitated if I felt a tech was rushing me to fall asleep or was the least bit upset with me.
Feeling rushed to sleep is like being rushed to achieve something else (in the pleasurable realm) if you get my drift.
It doesn't work!!!
Some of us, here, are old pros but we need to remember that some of the newer people to C/Bi/Auto PAP are just starting to learn.
Have mercy!
