Wow, I guess I'm just more sensitive to the idiocyncracies of people since I counsel the mentally ill. They no more want to be mentally ill than we want to have a sleep disorder. I perceived GottaSleepMD's problem as one of anxiety and frustration rather than that of an obstinent person. I highly doubt that she set out to be a difficult or non-compliant patient. How do tech's handle a mentally retarded or mentally ill person in the lab? They do get such individuals.
I suppose I am either seeing a different point of view or missing something here. I prefer to think the former. Like I said, I am just ultra sensitive to the emotional needs of people.
During my second sleep study (a one-year follow up), I didn't sleep anywhere near as well as I did during the CPAP part of my first study - which amounted to 45% REM sleep.
I was more rested before coming in on the second go-round. The glue itched, I was keyed up about being back in the lab, I didn't have my night guard in (not allowed) or my eye shade on to block the air from the exhale port from blowing near my eyes (not allowed), or my own humidifier (there was none) and the machime was as loud as a vacuum cleaner. Plus, I wore their mask which wasn't broken in the way I like it.
Does that make me a bad patient? Was I not trying to comply?
I brought my own pillow and comforter. I slept but still, it was not like sleeping at home.
Fortunately, the tech knows me and we were able to have a little humor together.
