Hello again Stephen,

I'm glad you're still hanging in there with us. I'm sorry this has taken so long and been so tramatic for you. There is only a few more days to go until your sleep test, so hang on just a little longer. Also, maybe it will help to think about the fact that you are finally getting to the steps that will actually document what is happening and lead to the treatment you need. When I went in for my sleep study and titrations, I found myself relaxing (instead of getting uptight) because I knew that I was finally getting some help. It is probably good advice about having the doctor prescribe something to help you relax for the study.

It is common to have two tests done. The first is the sleep study and then go back and have the titration with the cpap machine (if needed). As hard as this has been on you, you might request that they do a split study. In a split study they will use the first part of the night doing a sleep study and if the need for cpap is indicated they will start you on cpap to determine your pressure needs. I feel that having the tests on separate nights is best, but this sometimes delays receiving treatment even longer. Due to your level of anxiety and suffering, a split study will save time and get your treatment started sooner.

Make sure you request on using a heated humidifier if they start you on cpap. It will make it much more comfortable for you.

Also keep in mind that though you may only know us through this forum on the internet, you have many friends here that can understand what you are feeling. To one degree or another we have been where you are with this and have experienced some of the same feelings. We are still here when you need us.

Now that the tests are starting you are fixing to begin overcoming this. It may take a little while before you get fully back to normal, but you are starting on the way. Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Jim
