Have I got the symptoms

Posted by Jump Start on March 11, 2002 at 08:35:33:

I came to work this morning looking for info on sleep apnea after an episode that occured last night and a similar event about 2 months ago. Last night I awoke abruptly jumping up on the bed gasping to get my breath. I felt as though my throat was constricted (it was). After a few seconds I got myself together, relaxed, and was able to breath again. Basically the same thing happened about 2 months ago. Scared the crap out of my wife. I had heard of sleep apnea and thought I should look in to it.
I am 42, 6'3" and 270 lbs. I work 10 hours a day, and get no exercise. I am out of shape but otherwise have no other health problems. My mouth is always dry and I usually awake several times at night to get a drink of water - and then later to get rid of the water! I also always feel tired, have little energy, like I never get a good nights rest, and am increasingly forgetfull. I rarely fall asleep before midnight. My wife says I snore but she is such a deep sleeper she hasn't complained about it keeping her up. This first time this happened I convinced myself I was dreaming about it happening. This time I know I wasn't. Does this sound familiar? I'm making a Dr. appt anyway but was wondering what you all thought.

Thanks.
