oxygen supplementation

Posted by Spirometry man on March 27, 2002 at 18:42:31:

I am currently on 3lpm of oxygen supplementation in addittion to my bi-pap. This has been going on for about two months. It took this much oxygen to consistently get my oxygen saturation to stay at or above 90%. My pulmonologist feels that I may have some sort of underlying lung problem and ordered a total lung function test recently which I have not yet heard the results from. His rationale for ordering the tests was that 3lpm for a 42 year old male non-smoker that is only about 20 lbs overweight seemed like an awful lot of oxygen to require at night. My question is does anyone else think this is a lot of oxygen? I have no experience or knowledge along these lines. Also can some people with sleep apnea also have underlying lung dysfunction? I most definately do have apnea although it is only considered to be moderate. Any light that can be shed would be appreciated.

Thanks much,

Spirometry-man(not to be confused with spider-man)
