Sometimes you just need to do what you need to do, whatever the age or condition of the patient (as long as they are in good enough shape to handle the surgery). My very frail mother-in-law just broke her hip at 89 years of age. Not an ideal situation, but it had to be fixed and she is doing fine. If there is the possibility that your mother may have better quality of life and/or longer life, it is worth pursuing. 70 is still pretty young.
