there is something to be said for being in a state of total unawareness in ones final days. In this matter it is not merely a matter of dementia. OSA places an enormous burden on the rest of the body, so it seems to me that there is no choice but to treat and if the only viable treatment is a trache, then so be it. A trache seems to me to be a pretty trivial procedure in the face of some procedures done on our seniors. I know an 80 year old who had a Whipple. (resection of the colon/pancreas) This is about as major surgery as it gets. Check out the many postings on a trache on the non cpap forum. You probably will not want the shiley.
