Numbness

Posted by Worried Sleeper on April 06, 2002 at 06:11:38:

I have posted a similar message on the apnea sleep forum - but I'm trying to see if anyone has run into this problem.

When I sleep without my CPAP machine (just got it about 3 weeks ago - next doctor appointment is still 2 weeks away) I wake up tired, etc etc. When I use the CPAP, it cures all that and I wake up feeling very alert, awake, etc. However, a new problem has cropped up. If I use the CPAP machine, I wake up and my left thigh is numb - completely. Usually for 20-30 seconds, but this morning it was for several minutes.

If I dont use the CPAP - it doesnt happen. When I use the CPAP I sleep on my back and dont move at all - so I thought maybe I was locking my knees and not getting good bloodflow. Tried a little back pain pillow under the knees - and still the same problem.

I've searched the boards - and a lot of people have experienced either 'pain', 'numbness', or 'cramps' (hard feeling to describe really - feels like it is hot or burning almost - fades into just an odd numbness after a few seconds). I havent found many of them have had any real luck in tracking down what the cause was.

Curious if other people do/did experience this, and any ideas what may cause it? I've been wracking my brain about everything from bloodflow to pinched nerves to aliens - but havent been able to really find anything productive.

Thanks
